94.09.13 workshop FRI session 33 Cloning Cloning 1. cloning is defined as, 2. "the production of genetically identical organisms via somatic cell nuclear transfer." 3. may no longer be a thing of the far‐off future 4. proponents cite many benefits as their source of excitement 5. However, the ethical issues of human cloning aren't being discussed as much as they should be. 6. isn't morally or ethically acceptable 7. religious issues and health concerns 8. create unforeseen and serious consequences 9. The premature death of the first cloned sheep named Dolly 10. Dolly suffered a lot of health problems, including but not limited to DNA degradation, lung disease, arthritis and premature aging. 11. if human cloning becomes widely practiced, it will be a lot harder to solve the ethical issues of human cloning 12. that could endanger the integrity of the human race 13. genetic mutation & genetic contamination due to interbreeding/crossbreeding 14. by allowing genetic engineering in human babies to occur, we are only a few steps away from cloning humans in large numbers. 15. The world is already facing overpopulation 16. Copying people/creating extra mouths to feed/duplicating genetic replicas of another human being 17. Duplicating famous leaders 18.What if it got into the wrong hands 19. I read a book where scientists cloned Hitler 20.They tried to take over the world 21.Creating a master race 22.Governments try to create qualities that they consider desirable 23. For instance, genetic manipulation could help regrow damaged cells that could be used to treat a multitude of sicknesses and injuries. They could even theoretically grow a new organ to replacement a damaged organ. People who have problems with infertility can use human cloning to produce a baby with the same DNA as them. Using cloned human bodies instead of animals for experiments can help researchers and scientists find cures for health conditions and disease more effectively. 24. Many couples are desperate to have children 25.Cloning might be the answer 26. Create parts for surgery 27.You might need a heart transplant Good luck! |
