Marxist Reading of the Alfred Tennyson "The Eagle" the present study aims to trace marxist concepts and analysis "the Eagle", one of the Tennyson's shortest poems. There are several key term views such as property (objectification, reification),exchange value, alienation, interpellation, communalism, and several other words some of which are applicable in analysis of this poem. According to marxistMarxists, capitalism is are the most important source of the class struggle, economic inequality and gender discrimination which is one of the main causes of woman's oppression. The capitalists(Bourgeois) have enslaved the proletariat and try to shape their identity. By applying the marxist approach, society is man‐oriented/male‐dominated and men define everything in their own terms. Based on the text, there are no human beings in the poem. The first word of the poem is "He", so we know that the Eagle is a guy, the speaker has chosen to assign a gender to the bird and he must have a reason for doing so. The Eagle represents a kind of masculine idea of power and gracefulness, just as a superhero seems most powerful. In addition, The Eagle awes us simply by standing there. He lives apart from society but can descend to our level when he needs to. We could read the eagle as an old fashioned portrayal of a great capitalist society that has domination over others. It would be worthwhile to mention, the Eagle is actually close to the sun, the sun is millions of miles away from the earth. Accordingly, Tennyson uses this devices to emphasize how this Eagle is sitting on the top of the world, where no marginal group could be. To sum up, patriarchy is a set of social relations in which there are hierarchal relations among men and solidarity among them which enable them to turn into dominatinge and oppressing women. Based on the text, there are is solidarity between the sun and Eagle and even they dominated on earth , and even have a control on its fertility.
