Some people think that universities should provide graduates with the knowledge and skills needed in the workplace. Others think that the true function of a university should be to give access to knowledge for its own sake, regardless of whether the course is useful to an employer. What, in your opinion, should be the main function of a university? The correlation between the university and labor market is one of the most arguable subjects in the education area. Some believe that universities are degree factories and others give more priority to science and knowledge as an independently pure duty. First of all, the answer to of this question is related to a field or degree that are taught in universities. For instance, some majors like a mechanical engineering in the bachelor's degree, require some courses about skills asked by employers but some fields like a physics are more academic and they focus more on study and researches. In addition, some argue that young people will have enough time to learn the working conditions in training courses and internships in companies, and universities should more further concentrate on the academic aspect. Usually companies have their own specific means for working and every new employee should learn these business rules even when they are experienced. Therefore, even if a university tries to include some workrelated courses in its curriculums, it would not be practical. Moreover, when an educational system leads students to learn work skills, they may not be able to think out of the box, and will consider being an employee the only possibility.. In conclusion, it seems that the main point of a university is preparing a condition for students to become more familiar with a wide range of knowledge and lettings companies teaching new graduates according to their own goals and their projects.
