Many people believe that reducing speed limits is the best option for road safety improvement. Do you think there are other measures that could be put in place? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this? Many people ranging from ordinary individuals to specialists in traffic hold the idea that reduction in speed can lower the number of the accidents. While I maintain that this is a significantly important factor in safety on roads, I am of the idea that many other measures such as higher standards of cars, improvement of roads and drivers’ annual health check could be introduced. High speed is arguably one of the main reasons contributing to fatal accidents on roads and especially on highways. From a psychological point of view when drivers see a car is driving running with/at a speed higher than theirs, this simple simply motivates them to drive faster to prove their competency in driving, and for sure not all drivers can manage their vehicle when they drive above a specific speed. This simply can lead to a disaster because not only do they threaten their life, but also others’ lives if they hit them. Nevertheless, speed limit not always necessarily has benefits. Driving with an unreasonable low speed can make drivers drowsy, and this is a negative point if speed constraints do are not introduced properly. I believe many other parameters must be put forward if we are looking for safer roads. Cars with higher quality make outstanding contribution to people’s safety on roads. Heavier body, higher quality of seat belt and breaks are cases in point. Annual health check of drivers is another important point that can save many lives. This is specifically important for drivers who drive with public means of transport. Improvement of the infrastructure of roads is another key factor that plays a crucial role to in change changing the roads to better. However, reduction of casualties and fatalities on roads is a confluence of a variety of factors, so it demands a deep understanding of reasons leading to appropriate solutions. I believe only putting constraint on speed cannot make our roads safe. That this significantly important subject demands a deeper research is an undeniable fact.
