Sanaz Namdar Topic: Nowadays technology is increasingly being used to monitor what people are saying and doing (for example, through cell phone tracking and security cameras). In many cases, the people being monitored are unaware that this is happening. Do you think the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages? These days, the issue of people being constantly controlled through technological appliances such as mobile phones and closed circuit cameras is one of the most disputable affairs. Scholars raise this issue particularly when it is conducted without the people’s consciousness. Some are for and others are against this argument. I presume that only if it is done with individuals’ permission, can it be acceptable. In many respects, exerting modernization in order to control individuals can have some constructive effects on society. To begin with, companies can apply this kind of information to conform to consumers’ taste as we have experienced the impacts of this economic metamorphosis. The more the manufacturers implement this method, the more thriving in the marketplace. Moreover, the judiciary part can monitor people to check them acting based on laws passed. For example, by utilizing police control in roads, not least in highways, the number of car accidents is reduced hence decreasing the number of casualties in roads’ accidents. On the other hand, this aspect of industrialization may result in some dire consequences constraining people’s freedom. Simply put, moguls and tech giants can orientate societies’ beliefs toward themselves endangering the future of human beings. Furthermore, research shows that some non-democratic governments fiddle these appliances in order to crack down on people more and more. Although inventing due to facilitating lives, these technologies may defeat an object in humans’ lives; in fact, they function as the barrier for societal freedom. In conclusion, for the above mentioned reasons about the dramatic growth in monitoring individuals via modern means, I personally insist on limiting these horrendous aspects of modernization by introducing some stringent laws. |
