Some people claim that it can benefit only the workers, and does not benefit employers at all. To what extent do you agree or disagree? It is true that with the advent of technology, working at home has become more ubiquitous, and it seems this trend will be of great benefit to both employers and employees. People who choose to do their job at home can save a lot of time and money. While being obliged to commute to work on a daily basis, employers should spend a significant portion of their income on either the public transportation fees or maintaining a car. Employees, moreover, should deal with rush-hour traffic which ordinarily is at the peak in the morning and evening when most employers are on the roads and trying to reach work or come back home. Conversely, every individual is capable of transforming an otherwise costly and timeconsuming commute to a fruitful session. At the same time, companies are able to maximize their profit by employing freelancers. By delegating some of their tasks which can be done remotely, they would not need to provide prohibitively expensive office space for their workforce, nor would they pay for operational costs or required equipment such as office furniture, the computers, and stationaries. Besides, employers, in many cases, are legally forced to provide the full-time employees working in place with a wide variety of fringe and benefits. For example, health insurance is often considered an indispensable part of employers’ contract. Furthermore, in the long run, working in an isolated environment like home has the ability to reduce an individual’s collaborative qualities, for one would be less likely to engage in teamwork activities. Also, were one to work individually for a long time, it would be more likely to feel cut off from society because of minimized human interaction. In conclusion, I am holding on to the view that both parties, that is employers and employees, would benefit and have their own take in this practice, remote working, provided by modern technology. |
