Some countries are struggling with an increase in the rate of crime. Many people think that having more police on the streets is the only way to reduce crime. To what extent do you agree? Crimes and how they can be cut down have always been a highly critical issue. While some strive to place the focus on police presence and its impact, I am of the opinion that the most paramount factor for addressing this problem is the socio-economic reasons. Furthermore, with the advent of leading-edge technologies affecting people from all walks of life, it is of significant importance to tackle the internet-related crimes and devise/develop some carefully designed punishments in order for victims to develop their sense of community. First of all, it should be taken into consideration that most of the crimes have financial causes and are deeply rooted in the economic instability and problems. Having difficulties in earning money, some people prefer to rob others or steal valuable gadgets to make a living. Therefore, the crimes' rate would be diminished if the government improved the economic situation. Secondly, with development of technology having a great impact on the youth, new types of crimes like cyber ones are going to be prevalent among young people. Streets are not anymore the only source of crimes and an especial attention should be paid to the methods by which the authority figures will be able to control and treat law-breaking behaviors. Thirdly, toughening legal obligations and enforcements through passing welldefined and rigid laws, governments can effectively show the consequences of committing crimes, thereby playing a key role in decreasing its rate. In addition, they can impose more severe capital punishments to compensate the financial effects of those illegal actions. In conclusion, with regard to the high rate of crimes in recent years, I have to admit that governments would have solved this matter decades ago, had they concentrated more on raising public welfare. Moreover, due to a host of breakthroughs in technology, efficient types of laws and punishments should be adopted.
