the culture and traditions are changing from generation to generation. Why does this happen? what can be done to change it? The abstract concept of tradition shifting from time to time has proved to be an enigma attracting many to define its nature. This volatility, albeit confusing, is believed to be better understood by tracing the culture's polar opposite, modernity, as it never stops to progress and takes constantly a new form/assumes a new shape or form. Throughout the course of human history, the newer generations of almost any community have constantly found themselves struggling to embrace their ancestors' traditions as their fathers did. Due to the identity crisis perhaps, the youth tend to question what they were supposed to follow without hesitation. They need to recognize themselves or have others recognize them. Moreover, the rise of other cultures may play a pivotal role. Attracted by new notions, tired of their worn customs, or influenced by the keen sense of curiosity, young people are more likely to abandon their own traditions and practice new ones as an attempt to find their position in their history. Nonetheless, since today modernity is mostly interpreted by certain countries and cultures, this can lead to yet more domination of these cultures while the rest are on death row, witnessing their followers turning to their more popular counterparts, gradually or abruptly, in large or small groups. Japan, could be a fine example of this phenomenon. After japan underwent a cultural metamorphosis, many Japanese sociologists confess, now there is nothing left but superficial rituals and clichés for people to identify with. What is currently happening in such countries may be an answer, though. There is a national campaign recently launched to revive lost traditions and resuscitate the half-dead culture. From rehashing traditional dressing to developing computers programs and instructions all in their mother tongue, attempts are made although far more need to be done to repair the prolonged damage. To conclude, in this interconnected world, it seems unfeasible to shield culture from the effects of the other ones in the hope of an intact survival, but trying to rescue their traditions, today’s prodigal sons can ask for their fathers’ absolution.
