Learning about the past has no value for those of us living in the present. Do you agree or disagree? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. The march of history has taught humans impressive lessons which have reflected their true nature of deeds. Humans’ mixed reactions to what has happened to their ancestors unveils the truth that history has repeated repeats itself, whereas people were have been negligent about these this treasure trove of information. While some believe that knowing about the past is useless in the contemporary world, I think that it is of necessity because it provides a social experience, can be employed to widen theoretical knowledge and some historical leading figures can act as role models to society. First of all, despite the fact that the world has gone through dramatic changes, affecting modern life in every aspect, there are some occasions which tend to happen, following the same patterns over and over again. For example, there are common features in every revolution, representing a widespread frustration in underprivileged people who are struggling for their survival and are furious with their tyrants. Although the way of protesting against cruelty has transformed through the years, the main causes are still the same. Therefore, these valuable experiences help societies to fully comprehend the mechanisms that lead to these phenomena and enable them to come up with better solutions to conquer their challenges. Moreover, with the advancement in scientific and practical fields like physics and mathematics, it may seem that modern theorists are needlessdo not need to know about other theoretical subjects like the philosophy of science and the history of art. A deeper look into what these philosophical and artistic concepts that were proposed centuries ago, contributes to the whole paradigm of knowledge, and shows that they are still valuable materials for researchers in different disciplines. For example, Aristotle’s theory of the virtue and morality answers some questions in moral psychology. As a consequence, by applying these this information to the modern branches of knowledge, a better understanding for enthusiasts would occur and a high-quality education would be expected. Finally, history is full of stories that shows the struggle between good and evil. Those who acceded to the power and committed crimes to against their citizens and those who were forced to abdicate the throne because of their deeds, are perfect examples to make people conscious of their past and discourage them from simulating cruel acts while encouraging them to emulate the heroic deeds that were performed by eminent people earlier in history. As a result, by executing this act, a healthier society would be the outcome. To sum up, I believe that to disavow the past is to be destroyed by it, so it is somehow necessary to learn about it. I suggest that the media is responsible to make educative documentaries about what has happened to humans since the dawn of time, because informing people about their past could results in enhanced decision-makings in critical stages, top quality learning and a better society.
