Some people believe that robots will play an important role in future societies, while others argue that robots might have negative effects on society. Discuss both views and give your opinion. Since nearly the middle of the 20th century, where the idea of robots and artificial intelligence ignited public debate, this has been a common topic among scientists and even ordinary people. While some see robots an integral part of future life, others point to the adverse effects they may have. With the advances of technology, robots will be increasingly used in different fields since they are able to perform tasks too difficult or dangerous for humans. Operating rescue missions in the event of natural disasters, conducting long space exploration across other planets, and doing multiple military tasks on a battlefield, these inventions are already great assistance to their creators. Moreover, given the growing need for mass production in various sectors such as agriculture and industry due to the rise in population, machines can and will be substituted for humans. They are undoubtedly faster and more accurate as they almost never suffer from human emotions such as boredom or tiredness, and are free from human errors. There is, however, a dark side to this picture. Automation, in spite of all the benefits bringing for humans, has indeed taken its toll on them. Jobs which once needed needing dozens of workers are now done by a single machine, operating in a far more efficient way. Robots have taken over the territory where, for millennia, humans never experienced any competition with other species; tasks that distinguished them from animals. Every day, a breadwinner finds himself letting his job slip through his fingers. Despite the implausibility of the picture painted in science-fiction movies and novels, and showing how cyborgs dominate the world and enslave human beings, the notion of their figurative dominance does not seem such far-fetched. In conclusion, robots, as a by-product of industrialization, has definitely transformed our lives and are probably going to make more fundamental changes in the future, but it seems hard to infer that will negatively impact on our societies than positively as they have already proved to be advantageous and served our species.
