What are the benefits and drawbacks of tourism? There is no doubt that nowadays the number of people who travel as a tourist has significantly increased. However, it is crystal clear that tourism brings about both advantages and disadvantages for the tourists and the host country in a way that impacts the economic and cultural situations of that. In the one hand, tourism has a considerable financial effect on the host country. People travelling to different countries usually spend a great amount of money there and an undeniable fact is that the more tourists go on a trip, the more money is spent on their travel. For example, Turkey’s government announced that more that 30 million people have visited the country in 2018 which means foreign people have brought a huge amount of money to Turkey. In addition, tourism is inextricably bound up with direct employment; therefore, the individuals' life quality would improve. Moreover, it has some benefits for visitors; People with diverse religious or cultural backgrounds can broaden their horizons and in consequence find out more about different people's traditions and beliefs. On the other hand, that tourism impacts the destination in a negative way is an inevitable truth. Not only do the tourists make a difference in the environment, but also they adversely affect the nation's culture. Visitors do not normally care about the host people's traditions insomuch that they might not respect them, thereby giving rise to the potential tension among the local and the foreign people. Furthermore, air pollution and traffic jams are other potentially harmful effects that could be taken into consideration. In conclusion, the benefits of tourism outweigh its drawbacks in a way that they drive almost all governments throughout the world to provide special circumstances to host foreign travelers.
