The best way to reduce traffic accidents is to raise the age limit for younger drivers and to lower the age limit for elderly ones. Do you agree or disagree? Road accidents have become one of prominent causes of death during recent decades. That is why researchers focus on recognizing and solving this problem. Some of them assume that extending the age limit for youths as drivers and reducing it for elderly ones are the most effective way of tackling this challenging situation. Others, however, assert vice versa. I, personally, maintain that there are numerous significantly more effective ways for reducing the number of car accidents. This short essay will elaborate on this contentious issue. First and foremost, installing some smart devices in vehicles capable of recording and reporting the average speed of cars and sending them to a police center, drivers become careful regarding exceeding speed limits which could be a beneficial policy for decreasing the number of collisions. Further and even more importantly is associated with initiating programs for raising people’s awareness as to the implications of driving recklessness, thereby avoiding driving impatiently and without paying attention to other drivers’ right. Last but not least, as a great number of road events are because of defective cars, not only should authorities persuade car owners to carry out a mechanical inspection on a regular basis, but they also had better consider a heavy fine for wrong doers. On the other hands, proponents opine that through imposing age restrictions, we, in fact, transform an otherwise risky road to a safe place to drive on, for many old people behind the wheel are not conscious enough and have less concentration on what they do. In addition, lower-aged generations are not mature and are prone to act in some unexpected ways while driving, hence their higher percentage of accidents. On the whole, I once again reaffirm my position about the policy of stricter limiting ages of driving which is effective but not sufficient for resolving the problem of high rate of car accidents in roads.
