Topic: Some people believe that visitors to other countries should follow local customs and behavior. Others disagree and think that the host country should welcome cultural differences. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. With the ever-growing tourism industry, no one doubts the prominent monetary and cultural aspects of travelling. While I believe no one should be, by any means, bound to respect or admire traditions of the host country with an equivalent degree to that of a local resident, no one should also be allowed to disrespect its culture. On the one hand, tradition and culture are not developed overnight, they rather take generations to flourish, hence their significance to societies. Religious beliefs, especially, are of the customs that are somehow embedded within people’s personality. That said, Ignoring or offending one’s religious faith might result in resentment. On that account, some would suggest that prior to an enjoying enjoyable visit to a country, it is best to gain insight regarding accepted manners in the visiting visited/host nation. By contrast, those who are the proponents of cultural diversity believe that one primary purpose of tourism is the cultural exchange, and would argue that it is inevitable for both the host country and visitors to experience some contrasting social behavior. Since tourism, over the course of time, has become an integral part of almost every economy, it would seem that the tolerance concerning such matters has also been risen worldwide. After all, tourists’ intention for visiting a country is to have a pleasant stay during the vacation they have managed to spare. Overall, it appears as though paying respect to local customs will cater create/foster an environment wherein cross-cultural interactions are easier to achieve. However, we shall not push travelers to involuntary involuntarily practice foreign cultures during their sojourn that will otherwise become inconvenient.
