The main purpose of public libraries is to provide books and they shouldn't waste their limited resources and space on providing expensive hi-tech media such as computer software, videos and DVDs. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Some might see libraries as a place only for books, thus expecting them to merely provide printed ones. We are all aware that the notion stems from the high cost of newly developed technology which indeed has found its way into our modern lives, but there is a question as to how they the pivotal role of it be denied, albeit expensive? Libraries, by their all means, should not be limited to the shelves of printed books, while they have potential to be more than what they currently are. Thanks to the ever-increasing technology, lifestyles have been changed, as have the desires. Barely does one spend time at the counter of a library to ask for an intended book, while they already have extremely fast access to strong databases offered by way of technology on hand. Denying the impact of technology is translated to cutting scores of trees, though there is opportunity to watch people pursuing the purpose of book-reading on their cellphones regardless of the time and place limitation. Considering mass media and update technology a waste of money, the idea holders are absolutely living in denial, since the advantages which they have brought in their wakes are revealed to every sensible person. Therefore, it is a must to designate local budgets for enhancing libraries’ technological infrastructure, otherwise they would totally fall behind from today’s modern lives. Besides, printed books and electronic books are not exclusively apart from each other, while the presence of the latter would seemingly improve the value of the former as they are in charge of different readers’ requirements. On the basis of the above mentioned reasons, I assume that not only is the newly applied technology compatible with the traditional libraries, but also fully equipped libraries are mandatory particularly in our current time.
